Costa Rica
A journey toward a regenerative retreat and learning centre
Stories, reflections and practical steps from the early development of a low-impact retreat vision in Costa Rica.
Gratitude Costa Rica is an emerging regenerative retreat and learning centre in development, rooted in nature, wellbeing, education, land stewardship and long-term self-sufficiency.
The centre is not yet open for bookings, and the land has not yet been chosen.
This is a careful beginning: a time for listening, learning, relationship-building and building the right foundations.

The vision in brief
Gratitude Costa Rica is being imagined as a regenerative retreat and learning centre where care for people, care for land and care for future communities are held together.
The long-term vision includes nature-based restoration, wellbeing and reflective practice, education and leadership retreats, creative residencies, permaculture, renewable energy, water-conscious design and responsible land stewardship.
This is not about rushing to build a retreat centre. It is about building slowly, carefully and with respect for the land, the local community and the realities of life in Costa Rica.

What makes this beginning different
Gratitude Costa Rica is not being built as a quick retreat business.
It is being developed slowly, with attention to land, community, water, access, local relationships, sustainability, legal foundations and the lived reality of creating something responsibly in Costa Rica.
The vision is shaped by three strands of experience:
-
Gratitude Vietnam, the first retreat home in the wider Gratitude journey;
-
Gratitude Worldwide, Naomi’s current education consultancy supporting learning, assessment, digital change and implementation;
-
a long-term commitment to restoration, care, reflective practice and land stewardship.
Future possibilities include educator and leadership retreats, creative residencies, facilitator-led retreats, reflective wellbeing experiences and learning programmes rooted in nature.
For now, this is a careful beginning: listening, learning, documenting the journey and building the right foundations before opening anything to guests.

Field notes from the journey
This site also shares the unfolding story behind Gratitude Costa Rica: the move, the practical lessons, the uncertainty, the kindness, the mistakes, the discoveries and the slow process of building something with care.
These reflections are part personal journal, part practical record and part invitation to follow the journey as the vision takes shape.
